Celebrates 25 Years with Branch-wide Inspection
Sunday June 25th, 2pm
The York Region Branch of St. John Ambulance will hold its first region-wide Volunteer Inspection at 2 pm., Sunday June 25th 2017 at the Ray Twinney Recreation Complex, 100 Eagle Street Newmarket.
PRESS RELEASE:
St. John Ambulance, which has served the communities of York Region for 25 years, is gathering many of its 600 volunteers for a Region-wide Inspection. Participants include Medical First Responders; Youth Cadets; Child Car Seat Educators; Therapy Dogs and their handlers. York Regional Police Pipes and Drums will be in attendance as special guests.
The event will also include drill team demonstrations and medical emergency scenarios by both Adult and Youth Medical First Responders. St. John Ambulance was established in Canada in 1883 and enables Canadians to improve their health, safety and quality of life by providing training and community service. The York Region Branch, in operation since 1991, provided First Aid training to over 6,500 people in 2016 while volunteers gave 74,000 hours of service.
In addition to medical first response services at events; youth leadership programs; and child car seat safety clinics; the Branch’s therapy dogs visit children and adults at schools, hospitals and retirement residences; while volunteers support regional emergency management efforts.
Past assistance includes the 2015 PanAm / ParaPan Games, the 2013 Special Olympics and the December 2013 Ice Storm.

St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program Teams are made up of evaluated dogs with certified volunteers. Improving lives on a daily basis, the program brings joy and comfort to the sick, lonely and those in need of a friendly visit. Services
St. John Ambulance Youth Program is a structured health-oriented program that provides young people with opportunities for social, educational and personal development through training, community service, leisure activities and participation at special events. Activities include First Aid, Health Care training, community service, camping and recreational events. (Ages 6-21+) YOUTH LEADERS: Needed to help supervise participants. (Age 18+)
