On Saturday, November 21st, 2020, St. John Ambulance York Region will be holding our 13th Annual Black & White Gala Charity and Fundraising Event at 8:00-9:00pm. Due to the ongoing pandemic, we will be holding this year’s event “virtually” in a ZOOM meeting format to support our volunteers. We are pleased to announce this year’s format will feature a unique LIP SYNC Battle contest by our own St. John Ambulance volunteers from across Ontario for your entertainment pleasure. You, our online attendees, will vote live and decide the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners for cash prizes! St. John Ambulance, has been serving Canadians since 1883. Our mission is to enable Canadians to improve their health, safety and quality of life by providing training and community services. In York Region, St. John Ambulance serves the nine municipalities of the region with over 639 volunteers who provided more than 67,517 hours of community service in 2019. In keeping with St. John’s mission, the York Region Branch provided first aid training to more than 5,000 people last year.

 

In order to provide community support for such a large area, we have four MEDICAL FIRST RESPONDER units whose 100 volunteers treated 304 patients at 205 public events last year. The 173 THERAPY DOG & HANDLERS from our four units made over 5,863 visits to schools, hospitals, retirement and long term care homes and workplaces. Our four YOUTH units taught first aid and leadership skills to almost 242 young people while the CHILD CAR SEAT SAFETY unit inspected over 204 car seats at 13 monthly workshops.

 

We rely on donations and fundraising to continue providing these volunteer services, although some of our charitable work is supported by revenues from our first aid training.

Part of the ZOOM evening’s event will also include a Live and Silent auction.
